Arrival
At 1:14pm on October 21, 2010, Shaquille O’Neal got out of a van in Harvard Square. He walked over to the “The Pit”, a small public space near the entrance to the subway.
He sat down.
He had tweeted earlier, a bit obliquely, that he was coming to the square.
News of Shaq’s arrival spread rapidly. A trickle of curious people became a large crowd. Eventually he was engulfed.
Shaq didn’t speak. Others spoke to him. Occasionally he smiled at something he heard.
He was patient as the crowd took turns posing for pictures.
Cameras and phones were everywhere.
After about an hour, Shaq got up, made his way through the sea of onlookers to his van, and left.
